The streaming is a collaboration between the Met, Vogue and Amazon, which funded the project and is also underwriting the benefit and accompanying “Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations” exhibition. Amazon founder and chief executive officer Jeff Bezos is the benefit’s honorary chair.
The live-stream, slated from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. that night, will feature arrivals as well as pretaped segments on the benefit’s history and this year’s exhibition.
Viewers can watch the red carpet action through Amazon.com, vogue.com and metmuseum.org. Adding an interactive element, questions can be submitted via Twitter through #metquestions, and Norwich and Wiedemann will take five extra questions for celebrities. They will also offer insights into the preparations through their timelines on Facebook.com/celebs.
The museum’s site will feature additional content from the exhibition, including videos, photos and commentary from curators Harold Koda and Andrew Bolton, while vogue.com will offer viewers a first look inside the gala and a video of the musical performance, which has not been disclosed yet.
